I grew up in the Pennsylvania Coal Region. Lower valley of Appalachia. One hour or more from any major city you could find on a state map. Born, raised, lived there for 24 years as an out-and-about socialist before moving. It’s the bleakest existence you could find in this country. You have the bar, the church, and work. That’s it. Domestic violence, broken families, 75% of the working population at either Wal-Mart or the nearby Fabcon factory. *If* you go to college, it’s 9 times out of 10 for nursing. You walk down the street and 90% of people you pass you intimately know. I live in Seattle now and the difference is VAST. I could never live in rural PA again after seeing just how much shit I’d been missing out on.

I hope if the debate happens Kamala gets Trump to trash talk social security, medicare and FDR.

To anybody who doubts how much the rural midwest sucks, I work on a farm in Kansas. Pretty much the entire village of like a few hundred people except like 2 are exactly like you would expect. Way prettier than other places in the midwest tho, way more wild flowers where I'm at.

I think that A LOT of people who engage in mild-to-moderate harassment and predatory behaviour are _specifically allowing themselves_ to do so because they internally consider themselves to be a/the “kind of person” who is INcapable of being a predator. (Obviously this doesn’t exist!!) They are giving themselves _carte blanche_ to get away with things that they would probably be critical of if they saw other types of people doing them because, on some level, they simply don’t believe it’s possible that they themselves could be problematic.

I always wanted to live in a rural town.. then i realized everyone just sucks and i have crowd anxiety. Spent 2 weeks in philly and i actually really enjoyed myself. Second stay for another week convinced me that cities are just better all around.

I live in Indiana and in a decently large town, but I'll say it too - spit it, king. The conversations I've heard or participated in are just infuriating sometimes as someone who is attempting in good faith to have a critical discussion. It's not fucking possible. 100% agree with your stance on debates right now too and it's equally infuriating because I *LIKE* to argue goddamnit. Even if I *am* wrong I'm better off for it in a good faith argument because I learned new information and changed my stance. I remember right after Oct. 7 when people were proudly supporting the destruction of Palestine; saying they should be wiped out and the land could go towards amusement parks and stuff. The only reason I saw this blatantly horrific sentiment go away (or retreat behind closed doors) was because people rightfully pointed out that these people were civilians and, most importantly, humans. The only thing “shocking” about this video is the fact that it’s so mask off. This sentiment is still shared, they just can’t be open about how they truly feel about the situation.
